While Drake’s projects span the Mountain West, we are proud to call Bozeman our home and share a deep love for this community.

Our ultimate goal is to support responsible expansion. We do this by bringing projects to completion through our expansive network of industry leading subcontractors. As a team, we are able to skillfully maneuver through a constantly changing construction environment.

We believe that a successful project is more than the end result. It’s also the smooth coordination of owners’ goals as drawings progress while providing guidance on green building requirements, city and state regulations, and constructability.  All this coordination comes in an effort to provide the project team with accurate budgets as we move forward. Equipped with a Class A building license to build high-rise structures, Drake brings their expertise in urban infill to expanding communities through-out the Mountain West Region.

At the core of every project is our network. Our subcontractors are industry leaders within their craft and true professionals. Under our leadership, we guarantee quality results, no matter the unique challenges that each project brings.

Cole Nelson

Drake is founded by a second-generation general contractor, Cole Nelson. Growing up in Minnesota, Cole worked for his father’s commercial general contracting company. At 16, he won his first public bid on a middle school remodel. Quickly learning the value of hard work and business relationships, he worked on ground up retail centers, senior housing, and public projects before college.

Cole then graduated with a Construction Management degree from NDSU and was recruited by a Mountain West startup, working side by side with the president running pre-construction on all projects.

Cole then worked as a Senior Project Manager for an established Denver developers/builders, managing projects ranging from $20M – $85M as both owner and developer. Taking a leading role in the company inspired Cole to found Drake Building and Development to meet the growing demand for multi-use properties in close-knit communities. Attracted to life in a small town, Cole felt deeply drawn to putting down roots in Montana. His goal is to bring his passion for construction into the local communities, aiding thoughtful expansion that preserves the original spirit of each town.

Meredith Walker

Meredith is the beating heart of Drake Building & Development. As co-founder Meredith runs Drake’s business operations, marketing, community outreach, and HR department.

From project marketing and branding to utility agreements Meredith’s integral role in each project helps bridge the gap from builder to resident experience.

Her unique perspective from managing multiple properties, coworking spaces and commercial leases all within the same building has uniquely equipped her with the ability to review projects prior to construction from the occupants and building operators perspective. Often times the most difficult part of a project is turning over to the operators and ensuring the resident’s/tenants’ experiences are good. Meredith understands that what makes our projects a community isn’t the building but rather the tenants and their experience with the building / other community members.
